World Bee Day - Sat 20th May 🐝
We have been busy learning all about bees over the last few days in preparation for World Bee Day. Classes have learned about the life cycle of a bee, created artwork, labelled diagrams of bees, illustrated pictures and read stories all about bees.
Author Margaret Doherty visited our Junior classes on Thursday and read her book "Everyday Things". She also sang her song: "A Song for the Honeybees" and talked to the classes about bees, what they eat and where they nest. The children really enjoyed her visit and loved hearing her play her ukulele for them. They know she loves bees as she was wearing her yellow bee jumper, bee socks and even bee earings!
Edel from the Heritage Council visited our Senior classes. She gave a very interesting presentation and talked about wild bees and honey bees and how the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan was developed to help them. The children got the chance to see bees in bug pots, the inside of a bee hive, a smoker and a bee suit. The children also got the chance to taste some honey!
At assembly Senior Infants shared facts about bees with the whole school!
