The Irish Proclamation
The 1916 Proclamation was a document issued by the Irish Volunteers and the Irish Citizen Army during the Easter Rising in Ireland, which began on the 24th April 1916. In it, the "Provisional Government of the Irish Republic" proclaimed Ireland's independence from the United Kingdom. The 1916 Proclamation declared Ireland a Republic and laid down the vision for the country and its people going forward. The seven signatories of the Proclamation were Padraig Pearse, James Connolly, Thomas Clarke, Thomas MacDonagh, Sean MacDermott, Joseph Plunkett & Eamonn Ceannt. In 2016, one hundred years later, all schools were asked to look at the proclamation and decide what needed to be added or removed from the proclamation to make it relevant to people today and for the next 100 years. Together, as a school we wrote our own version of the Irish Proclamation. We are very proud of it……
