Active Schools' Week 2019
Active Week 2018
This week is Active Schools Week and we have lots of activities throughout the week to help us get moving and stay active. We even have Active homework so that we can keep up the exercising at home!
Wake Up! Shake Up!
Every morning this week the whole school will start the day with 10 minutes of exercising in the yard to help us wake up and get moving. We would love to see lots of parents joining in too.
Monday
Marathon and circut training
Tuesday
On Tuesday, Zumba Teacher Benina visited our school and taught our younger classes how to do Zumba.
Wednesday
We had a great turnout for our parents' run. Well done to everybody who got involved.
Thursday
Today we had relay races from Junior Infants to Second class. We had skipping races, egg and spoon, an obstacle race and more. Each team was made up of children from each level and one staff member. We had great fun and the teams had fantastic support from their classmates on the sidelines.ThursdayDarragh from GNS came back again to do circuit training with our fifth and sixth classes this time.

We finished off another great Active Week with our annual Teachers Vs. Students game of rounders. Once again it was a very competitive match with both teams discussing tactics before the game. Sadly, Mr. Byrne must have missed the teachers' meeting as he seemed to forget which team he was playing for!
The students took an early lead and although the teachers rallied, in the end we could not close the gap. The students proved too strong for us on the day and won with a decisive 25-13 victory. Congratulations students! Teachers - mandatory weekly rounders training begins next week in preparation for next year's tournament.

Monday was "Marathon Monday". 1 lap of our yard is 167m. Each class ran a total 252 laps between them, equivalent to a marathon.

Darragh from GNS came to do circuit training with our third and fourth classes. It certainly looks like a tough workout!

Active Week 2017
This week was Active Week in Scoil Mhuire. We started every morning with "Wake-Up, Shake-Up" exercises in the yard. The whole school has been doing squats, lunges, leap frogs and much more every morning before we start our lessons. It was great to see some parents joining in too. The children did 'Active Homework' every night this week and lots of classes did extra P.E. too. Well done to everybody!
On Monday we started off Active Week with "Marathon Monday". Every class ran 252 laps around the yard between all the children totaling 42km - a full marathon per class!

On Tuesday the Junior Classes did races with the teachers. It was very competitive.
Wednesday morning Ms. Dowling organised running for lots of children, parents and teachers. It was great to see so many people out getting fit.
On Wednesday and Thursday Skipping John came to our school and taught every class how to skip and do tricks. On Thursday the classes put on a show to demonstrate what they had learned in their skipping workshop.
Friday morning the whole school performed a dance in assembly to "Best Day of my Life". The children had been practising all week in their classes and some children even practised at home. Check out the video below.
