Our Last Week in Scoil Mhuire....
The boys and girls in 6th class have been very busy over their final few days in primary school and have been enjoying some well earned rewards to round up the year! We've been making the most of the fine weather and have had some great games of basketball, football and benchball - the highlight being the 6th class vs teachers basketball game this afternoon. 6th class took the lead and won the game in the end - not surprising after all their practice and success this year!
This week took a trip up to the Wonderful Barn and the GAA club, decorated cupcakes, played Mr. Byrne and Mr. Lynch in table tennis, had an ice-cream party and a water balloon fight (where Ms.O'Driscoll seemed to be the target!)
The two 6th classes have been an absolutely brilliant bunch all year and there's no doubt that they will be hugely missed by everyone in Scoil Mhuire. A huge thank you to all the parents for their support all year and to the boys and girls for being an all round excellent bunch! We've had some brilliant moments up in 6th class this year and are leaving with lots of lovely memories from our years in Scoil Mhuire! Now it's time to enjoy the summer holidays!!

6th Class Graduation
6th class had a brilliant graduation last week. We had a lovely ceremony in the church and the celebration continued in Scoil Mhuire afterwards. We really enjoyed listening to all our memories from primary school in our graduation poem and loved seeing some old and new photos from our time in Scoil Mhuire in our graduation video. Well done to everyone in 6th class for a brilliant night!

Sports Awards
This year has been a hugely successful year for Scoil Mhuire and for 6th class in sport. We had the sports awards last week and collected a lot of medals and trophies! Congratulations to the Under 11 and Under 13 football team and the Scoil Mhuire basketball team, and to the boys and girls who accepted individual awards. Well done to all the boys and girls for their commitment and hard work all year, it has really paid off!
Basketball and Running
The Friday before May Mid-Term was a busy one with an intense basketball final in the morning and a cross-country running event in the afternoon!
The 6th class basketball team won the final against Scoil Bhríde in a brilliant game! It was very close but Scoil Mhuire couldn't be beaten!
The senior classes from the local schools took part in a running event to raise money to send some of Scoil Mhuire's past pupils to the Special Olympics. 10 boys and girls from 6th class took part. Well done to all involved!

Old Photos
We've taken a few great trips down memory lane over the last few weeks looking at some lovely old photos and videos of the class. Thanks a million to all who have shared! We'd only love to have a look at some more if they can be rooted out!
6th class had a lovely morning walking to Leixlip Library on Monday to watch 'Holes'. Both classes read the novel before Easter.

Some fun on the yard during Active Week with our Friendship week buddies from Ms.O' Grady's Class...
GOAL Workshop
We learned a lot about drought and hunger in Ethiopia during a GOAL drama workshop. We played some drama games, engaged in discussions about photographs of Ethiopian life and created some typical scenarios in an Ethiopian market place using only body language and gestures.
We enjoyed two visits from the chicks Popcorn and April over the last few weeks
One didn't want to say goodbye!
Easter
We managed to fill our marble jar just in time for the half day before Easter Holidays. We chose a game of basketball as our reward and got to team up with the other 6th class for a game. The sun even made an appearance!

Our Confirmation Photos!
Confirmation Day - 22nd February 2018
A huge congratulations to the children across both sixth classes on making their Confirmation. The boys and girls did themselves so proud both on the day and in the weeks leading up to it.
Everyone put huge work into preparing for the day. The children and their families had a Commitment mass, pre-Confirmation mass and Service of Light all before the big day. They spent a lot of time working on their Confirmation Yearbook throughout the year and learned all about the Fruits and Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Many attended the 'You Shall be my Witness Programme' in the weeks leading up to the confirmation. Well Done to all involved!

Our Confirmation Names
After a lot of consideration and research, everyone selected a saint's name to choose as their confirmation name. They wrote all about this in their typed piece titled 'What Confirmation Means to Me'. They even told Bishop Field what they knew about the saint they chose and why their name was special to them when being Confirmed.
Full Attendance

History and Geography

|
- In September we took a look at the history of Leixlip. We looked at a map of Leixlip and then recreated our own, making sure to include the roads and buildings that are particularly important to us.
Science
We've been learning about the brain and reactions. We wanted to find out if reactions can be improved. We tested this by dropping a ruler and recording at what centimetre our partners caught it at. We repeated the experiment ten times to see if our reactions improved with practice.
School Garden
Our class have had two very productive days in the garden this October. We went out with Pat to set some daffodil bulbs. With the help of Mrs. Daly we pulled up the ornamental pumpkins that we set last year. They were all sorts of shapes and sizes. We added them to the school's autumn display.
