Congratulations to the Class of 2020!
What a fantastic evening we had last night to celebrate the end of your primary school years in Scoil Mhuire! The students were exceptional at mass, completing all their jobs to perfection, making the gathering extra special as we reflected on the 8 years spent in Scoil Mhuire. A huge thank you to Ella and Fr. Karl who both added greatly to the evening and to all those in the church who ensured the night went as planned.
The speeches in the church were very touching - Claire spoke on behalf of the PTA, Mrs. Mescal on behalf of the school and of course the best speech of the night was from the students as they shared their thoughts on the 8 years and recalled the many unforgettable moments.
We were very fortunate that the weather cleared and we were able to return to 'Gairdín Uí Dhálaigh' and the school grounds for the last time.
A massive thank you to your parents for all their support and thoughtfulness over the 8 years. All their teachers have always commented on what a great group of parents are behind the class. Thank you to all the teachers for coming last night and to Ms. Cleary, Ms. O'Grady and Pat who were on duty in the school while we were in the church. Thank you to Ms. Corduff (SNA) for the gorgeous graduation cupcakes also.
The Class of 2020 will be missed in Scoil Mhuire and last night really showed how fortunate we were to have each and every one of you as students.
I hope you enjoy the next few weeks before you begin secondary school and I wish you all the best as you begin this journey. Hopefully you might pay us a visit to Scoil Mhuire next year once everything gets back to normal.
Huge Congratulations and Well Done to the Class of 2020 - an unforgettable bunch!

8 Magnificent Years in 18 Minutes
Watch the class grow from little junior infants to confident, mature leaders, preparing to leave Scoil Mhuire and begin the next chapter of their lives! As discussed this morning on Zoom, their sense of friendship is remarkable.
A huge thank you to all those who in sent in pictures and videos to help create the slideshow! :)
Thank You!
To all in 6th Class,
Thank you so much for the extremely thoughtful message. You have been a wonderful class to teach and I'll always remember the 'Class of 2020', the ones who finished their primary school days online! One of a kind definitely - although you were this before Covid also!
Open Day and your Confirmation Day were stand out moments for me this year, but I will also remember the laughs, jokes, chats and the competitive tables' games!
We will have all the formal thank yous and goodbyes in the coming weeks.
I look forward to a final event with you all and your parents on July 14th!
Ms. O'Mara

Engineer's Week
We celebrated 'Engineer's Week' this week. Earlier in the week we made robotic hands which could lift a plastic cup. In our second challenge we were required to construct a circle using Pringles. Half the fun was in eating our creations afterwards!
World Book Day
Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Harry Potter, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Alex Rider, Mary Poppins, SpongeBob, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and more, influenced our choices today.
Ficheall Chess Tournament
Well done to our 8 representatives who competed in the Ficheall Chess Tournament in Clane this week. They each played six matches against competitors from various other schools. We currently await the results of the competition.
Confirmation Photograph Day
We had a very enjoyable day of little work and lots of posing for pictures and visiting classes in our finery!
Congratulations Confirmation Candidates
Huge congratulations to all those who received the Sacrament of Confirmation today, the 27th of February. All involved were exceptional and the day was most enjoyable. Their preparation and dedication over the last few weeks was appreciated and made the day run so smoothly.
Thank you to Ella Doran for all her help during our preparation, to Episcopal Vicar Thornton for confirming us all and to Fr. Karl and Fr. Gregory and all in the parish for their support. Of course, the continued support of all the parents and sponsors means so much to all the candidates.

Visitors from St. Mary's GAA and Coláiste Chiaráin
4th, 5th & 6th class students received a visit from some current Coláiste Chiaráin students who've had a very successful sporting year. Hopefully some of our students will follow in their footsteps in the future.
Kaleidoscopes
We studied 'light' in science and made kaleidoscopes. We used a mirrored sheet, a straw, a toilet roll tube and some card to make the kaleidoscopes in pairs. See some of the results below.

Girls Under 11 Final
Well done to the Under 11 girls football team for reaching the final of the after school league. They narrowly missed out on the trophy to Scoil Eoin Phóil. A great effort was put in by all involved.

Chess Jamboree
Thanks to Ms. O'Donnell & Ms. Doyle for organising today's chess jamboree. Many of our class attend lunchtime chess on Fridays. Only 10 representatives could take part in the jamboree, the standard was very high. We played 5 games of 12 minutes against students from Scoil Uí Dhálaigh and Scoil Bhríde. We finished the tournament in 1st place with a total of 129 points. We were awarded a new plaque to recognise our win. This plaque will be used annually for the 'Comórtas Fichelle, Léim an Bhradáin'. We look forward to further tournaments later in the year.

Soccer Blitz in The Amenities
Thanks to Paul from Leixlip United for organising a fantastic blitz today in The Amenities. Representatives from 5th & 6th classes demonstrated such skill, that we were the only school to have two teams in the semi-finals. Unfortunately, we were paired against each other at this point and Scoil Mhuire Rovers bowed out, but Scoil Mhuire United made it to the final. After an extremely tense match and extra time, the result was still nil-nil. Well done to the Scoil Eoin Phóil team who won on penalties. A fantastic day was had and the children represented Scoil Mhuire exceptionally. Scoil Mhuire United received their medals on their return to school.
Maths Week
6th Class greatly enjoyed Maths Week!
On Tuesday, Tara, Kate & Oisín correctly estimated the perimeter of the school yard. 1610m if Ms. O'Mara remembers correctly!
Paddy threw the javelin the furthest distance - 16m, on Wednesday.
Thursday saw Sara solving the tangram in 1 minute 57.23 seconds. The fastest time in the school!
Thanks to Ms. Dowling for providing us with prizes for all our achievements.
On Friday we worked in teams to collaboratively solve Izak 9's puzzles.

Student Council Elections
Today, the 18th of September marked Student Council Election Day in Scoil Mhuire. Four 6th Class students were appointed as Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary & Treasurer as recently as Monday. They went through the process of sending in written applications and were then interviewed by two teachers. It was a real challenge to narrow down the competition to just four, as all of the 12 were exceptional candidates.
Following their appointments, we were ready to decide on our class representatives. Classes 3rd to 6th made their way to our room to vote in a secret ballot. 6th Class tallied all the votes using the quota system and were exceptional polling station attendants all day.

September in 6th Class
We've made a great start to the year in 6th Class. We're finding our feet as leaders of the school and taking on more responsibility daily. 'Tús maith, leath na oibre' as our seanfhocail says for this month ... a good start is half the battle!
