Farewell Mrs. Mescal
The time has come to say goodbye to our principal Mrs. Mescal, who is leaving Scoil Mhuire after 24 years. She has been a wonderful principal for the last 8 years and was a dedicated and exemplary teacher for 16 years prior to that. She will be deeply missed by the whole school community.
We are truly grateful to Mrs. Mescal for the huge contribution she has made to the children and families of Leixlip over the past 24 years. Mrs. Mescal has helped create a happy school where everyone feels welcome and valued and where everyone knows the importance of hard work! She has also enhanced our school building greatly over the past 8 years and improved our school grounds with additions such as the Fáilte sign, flowers, the owl statue and lots of school signs. She introduced initiatives such as the pumpkin competition and grandparents' day celebrations, created a memorial garden for our former colleague, Mrs. Daly, promoted the student voice and supported teachers to introduce lots of new initiatives.
On Thursday 29th June 2023, the staff and pupils of Scoil Mhuire held a special goodbye assembly for Mrs. Mescal.
Ms. O'Mara shared the pupils’ responses to a survey about their principal. We heard lovely comments about how Mrs. Mescal is kind, fair and generous. We listened to the children's favourite things about Mrs. Mescal which included how she meets everyone at the gate and says good morning!, she visits classrooms regularly and loves giving out stickers and prizes. The children then presented Mrs. Mescal with some lovely gifts and cards they had made in their classes which she was very grateful for. A child from each class read their goodbye note to Mrs. Mescal.

The pupils and staff wanted to make sure we had one final surprise for Mrs. Mescal and that was to sing her a goodbye song. Ms. McCarthy changed the words of her own song "All around the World" to make a new song for Mrs. Mescal - "All around the School". The children and staff had great fun learning the lyrics in secret. We knew Mrs. Mescal would love it! A big thank you to Ms. McCarthy for organising this special surprise.
At the end of the assembly Mrs. Mescal had some lovely words of encouragement and praise for all the pupils and staff of Scoil Mhuire. She reminded us to be kind, be honest, work hard and always show respect. She said Scoil Mhuire has the best students in Ireland and she treated the whole school to ice-cream! Mrs. Mescal is sad to be leaving Scoil Mhuire but she knows she will always be part of the Scoil Mhuire team!
