👩🔬Intel Mini Scientist Competition 2023 👨🔬
On Thursday the 26th of November, we welcomed three judges to Scoil Mhuire to judge the amazing projects 5th Class had been working on since September. All projects were of an exceptionally high calibre and we were so proud of their presentation skills on the day. All projects boasted really interesting topics, such as what drink affects teeth the worst, brain concentration levels, solar panels and the ability of the Burj Khalifa to withstand earthquakes. So much time and effort went into investigating and experimenting, as well as designing stunning display boards and writing up report booklets. Táimid bródiúil astu go léir i Scoil Mhuire!!!!
Well done to Molly and Aoibheann with their highly commended project based on the suitability of different types of flour in baking.Well done to Aoife, Emilia and Allegra who were highly commended for their project 'Fruits- The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' and to Adam, Aaron and Rian who were the overall winners for their project, 'What Structure is the Strongest?' They will progress to the next stage of the competition.

Ms. Flynn's 5th Class 2021 Competition
On the 3rd of November, 5th Class showcased their Mini Scientist projects in the school hall. I was so proud of the hard work and dedication each child put into their project. Their confidence and in-depth knowledge was clearly portrayed in their presentations while judging took place.
Take a look at the video below where we share an insight into the broad range of projects 5th Class researched and displayed on the day!

November 2020
This year the 5th class girls and boys made a huge effort to complete individual science projects.
Ms. Doyle was our school judge as the Intel judges could not visit due to restrictions.
We would like to say a big thank you to Ms. Doyle for the very difficult task of picking the winners as each of the projects were excellent.

Intel Mini Scientist
Competition 2015
Ms. O'Donnell's and Ms. O'Driscoll's fifth classes participated in the Intel Mini Scientist competition in the first term of school. The children worked extremely hard to complete their projects. They conducted experiments, produced booklets and designed posters-working in groups and some preferring to work on their own. Topics investigated were Water Absorption, Solar Energy, The Eye, Volcanoes, Sugar Content in Food, Bridges, A Wormery, Lava Lamps, Teeth, Food Colouring.
On Friday Nov. 19th they presented their projects in the school hall. Three judges from Intel came to choose the winning project. Daniel Colgan-McCabe, Paul Donnellan, Callan Thompson and Keelan Byrne were announced the winners for their project on "Bridges". They went on to represent the school in the Regional Final in Intel in December. Runners - up were Maria Gheorge and Marius Paun for their project on Water Absorption. All the children received a "goody bag" to acknowledge their hard work.
The Regional Final took place in Intel on Friday 11th December. While the project was not chosen to go to the National Final, the boys were a credit to Scoil Mhuire. They each interacted knowledgeably with the judges and the many other interested visitors to their stand. They received acknowledgement of and praise for their hard work. Well done!
