Maths: Capacity
We have been learning all about capacity and how much liquid containers can hold. We have done lots of estimating, filling, pouring, emptying and playing in the water and sand!
World Book Day
We dressed up as our favourite characters from books and stories for World Book Day. We went to visit the school library and brought our favourite books with us to read to our friends.
Friendship Week
'We had a lovely Friendship week in February. We were paired up with Ms. Barretts 3rd Class. We did lots of activities together throughout the week. They came down to visit our classroom and we played games together. We also went up to their room and they read stories to us and helped us to make Friendship Handprints. We swapped yards at lunchtime so that we could play with the older classes and get to know some more children in the school. Ms. Barrett's class helped us to make Valentine's Day cards for our parents and we also did some extra PE together out in the yard. Ms. Barrett's class even gave us a packet of sweets as an act of kindness! In class, we even did some mindfulness activities to keep our minds calm and peaceful.
Grandparents Day
We had a very exciting morning when we were visited by lots of our Grandparents. They came in to see our classroom and we played games together, coloured pictures and had a chat. They told us lots of stories about when they were in school and the different types of games and lessons that they had in schools a long time ago. It was very interesting to hear about the old blackboards and chalk the teachers used, the old desks they sat in and some of the old games they played in school.
Big Books
We love reading and talking about books. We have storytime at the end of everyday and each fortnight we read a new Big Book. We chat about the author and illustrator, we read the blurb, pick out words we know and look for clues about the story in the pictures. We try to remember the sequence of the books and retell the story in our own words. So far we have read books like Walking Through The Jungle, Dear Zoo, 5 Minutes Peace, Room on the Broom, Owl Babies and We're Going on a Bear Hunt. We draw pictures, make art, act out different parts and even make maps about the books. Sometimes, we even get to watch a video or movie about the book!
Halloween
There was lots of spooky goings on in Junior Infants in the lead up to Halloween. We had a Fancy Dress Shop, a haunted house, our sand box was full of creepy crawlies and we made lots of Halloween arts and crafts!
GOAL Jersey Day
On Friday 12th October we celebrated Jersey Day by wearing in our favourite team jerseys and colours! We donated €2 each and our class raised €36! We designed our own football jerseys aswell and went to assembly where we saw the whole school, even the teachers, in their team jerseys!
Welcome to Junior Infants!
