Sixth Class went on their tour to Lilliput Adventure Centre in Mullingar on Tuesday 27th June. We had such a brilliant day. The activities included kayaking, bog jumping, swimming in the lake, orienteering, rock climbing, archery, group games and forest fun. Our favourites were the kayaking and bog jumping. It was a great way to finish Sixth Class. It was our favourite tour ever!

Welcome to Ms. O'Donnell's Sixth Class 2016-2017
A Blast from the Past - Our First Day in School!
Thanks to Lola, we had a great blast from the past recently to enhance our History class! She brought in the Liffey Champion from May 2010 with pictures of our first day in school. We had great fun seeing could we recognise all the faces. Some of us haven't changed at all!

The children in Sixth Class participated in a Leixlip Youth Project as part of Kildare Youth Services. Three facilitators provided a workshop for the students as part of the transition from primary to secondary school. The children found it beneficial and very interesting as they embark on their journey to their new schools.
Sixth Class were invited on a trip to Confey GAA Club on Tuesday 16th May as part of the Junior Achievement Award in association with the Health and Safety Authority. The children were involved in various workshops in small groups and had a hands on session in each of the safety areas. The various workshops included water safety, farm safety, construction safety, lifting, a talk from the fire services, the local guards and road safety. The children thoroughly enjoyed the demonstrations and learned so much. We would like to say a big thank you to the organisers and the groups that participated in the event who were so enthusiastic and interesting. We got to try on hard hats, a fireman's helmet, a garda hat and lots of other protective clothing. We threw life buoys and learned how to do this properly. Water safety is so important, especially during the fine weather and over the summer holidays. We all need to keep safe and educate others also. Remember KEEP SAFE when you are out and about!
During active school's week, we participated in various sporting activities all week. We had a warm up each morning to start the day, we had extra PE lessons that week and we even had active homework which included lunges, scissors, burpees, bicycle legs and jumping jacks. The teachers V students rounder's match was great fun. Sean and Harry represented the class well, but in the end the teachers won by a small margin. Sixth Class buddied up with Junior Infants as you can see above. We taught them various ball skills and group games. We love helping the younger students to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Active School's week was really great fun and highlighted the importance of exercise each day as part of a balanced lifestyle.
We prepared a plot in the garden for planting potatoes. We dug up the weeds, levelled out the soil and used garden tools and a spade to make the soil ready for planting. We made holes in the soil for the potatoes and added compost. We will observe them over the next few weeks. Potatoes are still a firm favourite in the Irish diet and recently in History we learned that during WW2, because of the food rationing, potatoes were heavily relied upon as they are quick and easy to grow. They grow especially well in Irish soil.

We participated in a drumming workshop recently where we learned about percussion instruments. We got to use many of them and perform rhythmic pieces as a group. The noise of the drums was so bad, teacher had to wear headphones!
As part of Confirmation preparation and You Shall be my Witness Programme, we performed random acts of kindness. As part of friendship week, we worked with Second Class. We read stories with them and we played playground games. Being kind and helpful is a very important part of our school community. |

We made our Confirmation on 16th February 2017. We had a lot of preparation to do coming up to the day and we were very busy. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and celebrating with our family and friends. Bishop Field was the celebrant of the mass and we all had various jobs on the day that we performed so well. This is a snapshot of us celebrating with our friends in school the next day.

We constructed Totem Poles using cardboard boxes and papier mache. Then we decorated them and put them together with tape. These were used as symbols in tribal dances and warfare. We will use them as part of the set in our Christmas play, "The Peace Child", which is a play about two rival tribal groups. We are looking forward to this very much!
We studied the Native American Indians and completed projects on this topic. We also studied America as a country during the Presidential Election. Each group completed different topics and one group researched previous American Presidents. We found it very interesting.
We all dressed up for Halloween and here we are in our costumes together.
We all wore our favourite jerseys on Jersey Day to support the charity GOAL.We wore soccer and GAA jerseys.
Gardening in Sixth Class
We visited the school garden with Mrs. Daly. We looked at the courgettes, cucumbers, carrots and beans. We harvested some carrots and turnips. The garden was in full bloom after the summer months!
Hard at work in the classroom!
