2d Shape Work
We loved learning about 2d shapes. We made loads of different pictures using, circles, squares and rectangles. We discussed their size, how many sides they had, how many corners and we made robots based on the story Harry and the Robots!
The Construction Site
We have had some very busy builders over in our Aistear Corner the last few weeks. They have been drawing plans, building blocks, sawing, cutting, screwing and making sure everyone is wearing safety equipment. Every now and then, they have to have a builders break and make some tea and sandwiches!
Bye Bye Chicks!
We are sad to see the chicks leave the school. It has been great to see them hatch and grow. We learned so much about their life cycle. And we discovered lots of stories that have chickens in them, Chicken Licken, the Hungry Hen, Handa's Hen, Rosie's Walk and loads more!
Happy St.Patrick's Day!
We learned all about St. Patrick this week. We had a 'Lá Glas' where everyone dressed up in the Irish colours to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. We had a big Céilí dance in the hall. Ms. O'Sullivan was there to teach us how to dance a 2 Hand Reel and 'Shoe the Donkey'. We made rainbows in art with a lucky pot of gold at the end and we printed a shamrock too. We made cards to give to our Mams and Dads and we even sang a song with Ms. Lenfestey's class at our Irish Assembly! It has been a busy few days and we are looking forward to Easter coming soon!
Counting
We have been doing lots of counting recently. We have played lots of counting games, used our counting stick and counted lots of different objects around the school. We know how to write the numbers 1 - 5 and have learned some easy rhymes to help us remember how to do them.
Grandparents Day
Thank you to all the amazing Grandparents who came to visit us in our classroom. It was lovely to show you all the fun thing we do in Junior Infants and to meet our friends. You are very special to us and we loved chatting and playing with you!
Playball
For 6 weeks, Wendy and the Playball team have come to do PE with us on Fridays. It is so much fun, we have learned and practised lots of new skills like catching, throwing, jumping, kicking, running and hitting with a bat and hockey stick! It is very energetic and keeps us growing fit and healthy.
Friendship Week
We were paired up with Ms. O'Donnell's 3rd class for Friendship Week. They presented us with friendship bracelets for the week. We visited their classroom and got to know all the people in their class. We played together in the yard, we did art together in our classroom, 3rd class helped us to read our paired readers and they helped us to solve lots of jigsaw puzzles too! We talked a lot about friendship and being kind to each other.
Literacy
Every morning we still have our Literacy stations where we learn our sounds, practise our writing, read our words and work on our fine motor skills.
Magnets
In December we explored all about magnets. We played with magnetic construction shapes. We played guessing games and we sorted objects in to magnetic and non magnetic sets!
The Doctor's Surgery
As part of our Aistear in November we set up a Doctor's Surgery to role play in. We had fun playing as receptionists, doctors, nurses and patients. We also had a visit from a real Nurse who gave us some real injections! We were very brave and our role play helped us to prepare for the visit!
Halloween
Happy Halloween from Junior Infants!
Can you tell who is 'whooooo' from our Halloween costumes?!
We have been learning a lot about Halloween. We set up our own Costume Shop in our Aistear corner to play with, we made skeletons out of cotton buds, we used apples to print pumpkin art, some children set up a haunted house and we even made some spells in the water area. We read the story Room on the Broom and cinema party to watch the movie version on the last day before the mid term break.
Jersey Day
On Friday we got to wear our favourite jersey into school. It was great to have a look at all the different colours and teams that everyone was wearing. The whole school took part and we had a very colourful assembly!
In our class, people wore Ireland, Germany, Kildare, Mayo, Clare, Dublin, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester Utd, Arsenal, Barcalona and many more colourful jerseys. We had a great time showing off our fashionable clothes!

Sorting and Matching
We have been doing loads of sorting and matching in our Maths lessons. We have sorted loads of different objects and pictures like beads, buttons, toys, animals, links and much more! We can discuss how we match them and why we have sorted them into different sets and groups.
Literacy Stations
Every morning we have Literacy Stations. This is where we learn all about our sounds, letters and words. We practise our phonics, talk about and read our small books, learn how to blend sounds together, use our fine motor skills and lots more! We get great help and support in the classroom from Ms. Saidléar, Ms. Gilsenan and Ms. Doyle.
Aistear
We love our Aistear station time. Some of our station areas include Construction, Sand, Role Play and Junk Art. We change everyday and we talk all about what we have been doing at the stations at the end of the week.
This month we have been learning all about the Kitchen and our home.
