Welcome to First Class!
Well done to the boys and girls who had 100% attendance between the Midterm break and the Easter holidays. They were all delighted to bring home their certificates.
Seachtain na Gaeilge
We celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge recently. We took part in a Céilí with Ms. O' Sullivan and had great fun learning the dances. We dressed in green and we made some lovely shamrock Art.
Well done to the boys and girls who had 100% attendance between Christmas and the Midterm break. Lots of children in our class hadn't missed a day and got to bring home a certificate.
Sow and Grow Update
Our Cress seeds were the first to grow and we were amazed at how quickly they sprouted. We brought them home and are minding them ourselves in our houses.
We paired up with Ms. McCormack's 5th class for Friendship Week. We did some reading and Art activities together and played together on the yard. We really enjoyed our week with our buddies and will meet up again throughout the year for some more fun activities.
Sow and Grow
We planted some seeds into cups of compost. We planted Cress, Peas and Spinach. We watered our seeds and placed them on the windowsill to get some warmth from the sun. We are excited to watch them grow and we will keep you updated about which seeds are growing the fastest!
On the 2nd of February, we invited our Grandparents into our classroom. We heard stories about school when they were our age. We talked about their favourite games, their favourite food and their favourite teachers. We asked them questions and they asked us questions also. We made cards to give to our Grandparents and we coloured pictures for them. The classroom visit was followed by a lovely prayer service in the hall for the whole school and our Grandparents. We really enjoyed the day and we hope our Grandparents did too!
We have been very lucky to take part in fun P.E activities this month. Wendy and Jeff come every Friday to teach us Playball and we have had lots of fun on the gymnastics equipment also.
We have been learning about Procedural Writing. As a class, we wrote the instructions you need to follow to make a cup of tea and we designed our own mugs.
Merry Christmas from everyone in 1st class. We have had a great 1st term and have worked really hard. We are excited to continue our hard work and fun in the next term.
The Children of Lir
We learned about Irish myths and legends. We read about the Children of Lir. King Lir's wife was jealous of his children so she turned them into swans for 900 years. The made some lovely artwork to show the swans on the lakes of Ireland.
Full Attendance Award
Well done to the 19 boys and girls who have not missed a day of school since the start of the school year. Our Attendance was so good in 1st class that we won a trophy to hang outside our classroom! Each of the boys and girls who had full attendance brought home a lovely certificate. We hope to win another trophy for the next term so keep it up!
We have been learning all about Autumn and animal hibernation. We learned about hedgehogs....we found out that they make a noise that sounds like a pig squealing!
We have had a very busy first month of First Class. Here is a little insight into all the fun and hard work we have taken part in.
We have been learning a lot in Maths this month. We have been using cubes to help us make our own sums. We have been working in pairs and practising our team work.
We have been really lucky to have 2 visitors to do PE with us so far this year. Playball teachers came to give us a demonstration on the game and we really enjoyed it. Coach Michael from the G.A.A has started visiting us every Friday and we have been learning how to play football. It is a lot of fun!
