Ms. O'Donnell's and Ms. O'Driscoll's fifth classes participated in the Intel Mini Scientist competition in the first term of school. The children worked extremely hard to complete their projects. They conducted experiments, produced booklets and designed posters-working in groups and some preferring to work on their own. Topics investigated were Water Absorption, Solar Energy, The Eye, Volcanoes, Sugar Content in Food, Bridges, A Wormery, Lava Lamps, Teeth, Food Colouring.
On Friday Nov. 19th they presented their projects in the school hall. Three judges from Intel came to choose the winning project. Daniel Colgan-McCabe, Paul Donnellan, Callan Thompson and Keelan Byrne were announced the winners for their project on "Bridges". They went on to represent the school in the Regional Final in Intel in December. Runners - up were Maria Gheorge and Marius Paun for their project on Water Absorption. All the children received a "goody bag" to acknowledge their hard work.
The Regional Final took place in Intel on Friday 11th December. While the project was not chosen to go to the National Final, the boys were a credit to Scoil Mhuire. They each interacted knowledgeably with the judges and the many other interested visitors to their stand. They received acknowledgement of and praise for their hard work. Well done!
